This peaceful protest, Red October March, elicited both positive and negative responses – positive by those who are able to empathize and negative by those who believe that whites in South Africa have NOTHING to complain about.
The majority of white South Africans don’t want to be associated with the Red October March that was organized by the Artist and Human Rights Activist, Sunette Bridges, because the majority of her followers are avowed racists - an unbearable embarrassment for the majority whites in South Africa as they express hate talk that equals the actions of the very brutal criminals who are killing not only whites, but all soft targets regardless of race and culture.
The supporters of the Red October March – the "Red October" numbskulls, as they were called by our most respected South African ambassador in HubPages, tonymac04.hubpages.com/ - were rebuked by the majority of white South Africans (and not to mention the other races) - and labelled as rebels, far-right-wingers and activists. They were condemned as ‘ridiculous and ludicrous whites claiming privileges they believe they deserve just because they are white. (Ref.: thoughtleader: a-comprehensive-guide-to-white-privilege-in-south-africa.
The Red October Marchers were labelled as selfish racists who only care about themselves and their own belongings. They were accused of stealing the pain of black people. (Ref.: stealing-black-peoples-pain)
Even the South African Communist Party rightfully accused the organizer of the Red October March of stealing their Red October Campaign that stands as a tribute to the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917.
Not only the killing of my fellow-white-South Africans, but the killing of all people breaks my heart. A beautiful, young black lady died right next to me in her hospital bed after she had been assaulted, gang-raped, and left to die. At this very moment the entire community of Diepsloot, and in fact the entire country, is fervently mourning the brutal killing of two black toddlers, aged 2 and 3, who were raped, mutilated and strangled to death by a monster of remorseless cruelty. WHY? How can these kind of criminals have more rights to live than law-abiding citizens and their children?
Yes, I MOURN my own dead people, but I also mourn all victims of criminals. I rave about these evil deeds like a child throwing a tantrum and I do wish with all my heart that Someone will pulverize all brutal murderers regardless of their race.
Rebuking me (and others), or blaming us because we have demonstrated our grief and anger by releasing red balloons in the air, is adverse judgment and the epitome of incomprehension and intolerance. The Red October March may have been a comfortable hang-out for avowed racists, but it was also a peaceful gathering of people who are mourning their beloveds and fearing their future. “When will it be my/our turn?” is a question in the hearts of all white South Africans, as the criminals have no idea who deserves to be killed and who spared. It is all about crime. By ignoring the outcries of white South Africans, the ANC Government has put a banner on the heads of all whites: “Wanted! Preferably dead than alive!”
Another point of view based on the accusation that participants of the Red October March are selfish racists, only caring about themselves and their own belongings. It is natural to NOT mourn the death of a neighbour’s parents and children while you are mourning your own? Having sympathy with another's grief is one thing, mourning the death of one’s own is another thing. Grief (the intense sorrow caused by loss of a loved one and especially by death) makes us blind and deaf for the grief of others. Grief is a magnet of misery, keeping us stuck to itself. While grieving, we can but only hate the cause of our pain. In the process of grief we may even end up hating The Creator himself, or whoever/whatever we believe has plotted our miserable destiny.
