"Everything I was trying to say about Jacob Zuma, and the way that he operates, the way he became president by riding roughshod over the justice system, has come true," Zapiro told News24 . His latest cartoon for The Daily Maverick depicts President Jacob Zuma zipping up his trousers as one of the Gupta brothers gets ready to "rape" South Africa, depicted as a woman, with State Security Minister David Mahlobo, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and The New Age editor Moegsien Williams holding her down.

Nuclear Power Program
9 April – That his refusal to sign off the Nuclear Power Program was the reason of the axing of former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has been denied, but a week later it seems to be the truth. South Africa’s new nuclear program will start in June with the total contract worth an estimated R1 trillion. The successful bidder will be appointed in March 2018.

South Africa’s new land bill
8 April – According to the bill, a Land Commission is to establish a register of public and private agricultural land ownership. Every owner of a private agricultural land holding must lodge a notification of ownership with the Commission in the prescribed form within 12 months of the commencement of the Act, if enacted in its present form. The notification is to include the race, gender and nationality of the owner, and the size and use of the agricultural holding. A Registrar of Deeds may not register the transfer unless the notification has been lodged with the Commission. A ‘foreign person’ will not be entitled to acquire ownership of agricultural land from the Commencement, but may conclude long leases of agricultural land (30 to 50 years). Such long leases must be registered in a Deeds Registry within 90 days of conclusion. A foreign person wishing to dispose of an agricultural land holding must offer it to the Minister who will have a right of first refusal to acquire ownership of such land.
The Minister must, after consultation with the Commission and the Minister responsible for agriculture, “determine the categories of ceilings for agricultural land holdings in each district”.
A Black Person must be offered the Redistribution Agricultural Land within a prescribed period, whereafter the Minister will have a right of first refusal to acquire such land for a further period. If the owner and the Minister are not able to reach agreement as to the price for the Redistribution Agricultural Land, the Minister may expropriate the land in question, subject to the expropriation laws at the time.
Comments on this bill expire on 13 April 2017.

South-Africa's-President-Beefs-up-His-Power-with-a Brutal-Cabinet-reshuffle - 02 April 2017
South Africans are flabbergasted and furious since Thursday night when their president's most brutal and irrational cabinet-reshuffle hit the country like a devastating tornado.
Just after midnight, on March 30th, in an unrelenting display of power, President Jacob Zuma made twenty changes in his cabinet, including the firing of five ministers despite opposition from his party (the ANC) and alliance partners.
A nation-wide outrage broke out on Friday morning when South Africans woke up to see President Zuma on TV, announcing the changes he has made. The grim expression on his face sent shivers through this owfma-SA and most certainly through millions of others.

Ministers-May-Idle-For-Years-Doing-Nothing-is-Not-a-Crime-says-President-Zuma - 19 March 2017
During the past two weeks, seventeen-million of South Africa’s most vulnerable people found themselves in a state of despair as they were not sure if their social grants would be paid on April 1st2017 and beyond.
When the media reminded Bathabile Olive Dlamini, Minister of Social Development of a court ruling that was issued three years ago, which scheduled March 31st 2017 as the end of Cash Paymaster Services (CSP) constitutional obligation to distribute social grants of almost R11-bilion to seventeen million beneficiaries, Minister Dlamini responded that the beneficiaries WILL receive their grants on April 1st. Her arrogance and ignorance shocked the country, as she was clearly unaware of the steps she was supposed to take in order to extend the (illegal) contract between SASSA and CSP. When asked in Parliament, President Zuma, too, assures the country that GRANTS WILL BE PAID (by hook or by crook.) He, too, had no idea what steps the minister was supposed to take. Or did they have a secret agenda?

Xenophobia-the-Trigger-of-all-Wars-Roars-Again-in-South-Africa - 12 March 2017
On February 24th, 2017, the shops and houses of foreign nationals were again looted and set alight. Police had to use stun grenades, water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse angry citizens and foreigner nationals. At least 137 people were arrested in less than 24 hours.
Where were these xenophobics in 2008, when forty-one foreign nationals and twenty-one South Africans had died in less than a month due to xenophobia?

52-Murders-a-Day-in-South-Africa - 5 March 2017
According to the crime report released on March 3rd by Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, and Acting National Police Commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane, 14,333 people were murdered in South Africa between April and December 2016. This breaks down to 52.36 people a day. (The minister’s report stated 52.1 a day).
Whatever, FIFTY-TWO people are being murdered per day in South Africa! What a shocking, mind-blowingly, horrible fact?
Adding the number of assaults with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, which is 470.7 a day, one can easily imagine just how unsafe the citizens of South Africa feel.

Repercussions-of-a-bill-that-combats-financial-crime-in-South-Africa - 29 January 2007
The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Amendment Bill, was passed by Parliament in May 2016 and expected to be signed into law by President Zuma before end June 2016. The bill is supposed to combat crimes like money laundering, tax evasion, financing of terrorism, and the illegal outflow of money, in line with international standards set by The Financial Action Task Force, but now, after a delay of SIX MONTHS, it is back in Parliament, unsigned.
"I have given consideration to the Bill in its entirety and certain submissions regarding the constitutionality of the Bill. After consideration of the Bill and having applied my mind to it, I am of the view that certain provisions of the Bill do not pass constitutional muster," said Pres. Zuma.

Devastating-fires-rage-in-the-Western-Cape-Province-of-South-Africa - 15 January 2017
Since January 3rd more than 1,000 firefighters have been deployed to battle fires in Somerset West, Simon's Town, Tulbagh, Parrow, and Grabouw, where unusually high winds with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and exceptionally dry conditions hampered efforts to control the blazes.
Thousands of hectares vegetation, historical buildings, guest farms and homes were completely destroyed.
All the fires were started by people, said Cape Town mayoral committee member for safety and security. Investigations are underway to reveal if the intent was malicious. Witness statements received from residents in the Helderberg area inspired authorities to offer a reward of R 25,000 for information that may lead to the arrest of arsonists. Inciting destruction of ‘white-owned land’ by the Black First Land First (BLF) movement is also under investigation. Read more...
