We all have stories to tell – happy and sad stories. But, why TELL it? Why not SHOW it; like a drama on stage, or a movie on TV?
Writing stories is therapeutic.
Writing stories is a mental challenge.
Writing stories is a source of income.
Writing stories is a soul-enriching hobby.
Writing stories is a way to come to terms with reality.
Why shouldn't truth be stranger than fiction?
Fiction, after all, has to make sense.
- Mark Twain -
A story is the truth with many tails. While we have to speak the truth and nothing but the truth when it comes to giving accounts of our actions, we have all the right in the world to twist and embellish the truth when we write or tell stories.
The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily.
That is what fiction means.
- Oscar Wilde -
In 2009 I wrote a course for short story writing, a course I would have loved to have followed in the beginning of my writing endeavours. The course was originally offered only in Afrikaans. Positive student feedback and the interest of a great many English students eventually encouraged me to translate this program into English as well.
The course comprises five modules, covering the specific structure and all the dynamic components of the Short Story.
An introduction to the course is available at:
