She then sent me a private message: “I feel like a sparrow without wings. I fell ill September last year. Doctor treated me for flu and sore throat. I am still not able to speak. Nobody can understand what I’m saying.”
My sincere sympathy to Hannetjie’s children and beloved relatives and friends. I will always treasure the time we were neighbours with babies and toddlers of the same age. Her son was born on Christmas Day, while mine came a week later on New Year’s Day. Our daughters were already toddlers and best friends.

Back to Hannetjie’s dream...
Or perhaps those wings were a metaphor of her lungs – two equally sensitive organs that have given her the freedom to breathe and live.
Hannetjie had one of those dreams that encourages us to understand the significance of our dreams in relation to our lives.
Rest in peace, dear Hannetjie!
